WHAT IS A SEMI-MOUNT?

Simply put, a semi-mount is a ring that does not yet have a center stone. With a semi-mount ring setting, you can choose the center stone, including the cut, carat weight, and more. This lets you select a band that captures your partner’s style and find a stone just for her. This is also an excellent option if you have an heirloom diamond or gemstone that you want to use. A semi-mount engagement ring is the perfect choice if you want flexibility in choosing the ring but still need a little direction.

WHAT IS A RING SETTING?

A ring setting can refer to two things. It can mean a semi-mount ring, but it most commonly refers to the metal that holds the diamond or gemstone in place. A prong setting is the most common type of ring setting. It includes four or more prongs that grip the diamond to hold it in place. Bezel, pave, and channel are also popular setting types.
