What type of clasp is best for you?

A key feature on your chain necklace or chain bracelet is the clasp. The clasp type can vary depending on the weight and look of jewelry. There are many clasp types, but here is some info about four of the most common: lobster, spring ring, adjustable, and bolo.  

Lobster Clasp: This clasp got its name because it resembles a lobster claw. This spring-loaded, self-closing clasp comes in a variety of sizes and styles. It is secure and easy to use. To open a lobster clasp, simply push on the lever to allow the “claw” to swing inward. 

Spring Ring Clasp: Spring ring clasps are found with all different kinds of jewelry. This clasp is a metal ring with a spring mechanism. To open, push the small lever and the spring will compress, leaving an opening in the ring. Spring ring clasps are versatile and secure, but they can be difficult to fasten on bracelets one-handed. 

Adjustable Chain: Adjustable chains feature a hook-and-eye clasp with an attached extra length of chain. This allows you to fasten the necklace to whatever length you need, depending on your top or other necklaces.  

Bolo Clasp: You may have heard of bolos from the Western bolo tie. This sliding clasp is very popular in bracelets and lariat necklaces because it allows you to easily adjust the length. You can do this by simply moving the clasp up or down the chain.
