Great addition to the Open Heart Collection

I have been a huge fan of the open heart collection, so excited when they came out with watches. My only "complaint" about this watch is that there isn't a second hand. In my profession that's a necessity.

What is the difference between a quartz movement and a self-winding movement?

Watches and fine timepieces are powered by one of two sources: self-winding automatic mechanical movements or by a small battery (quartz). The normal daily action of moving your arm is sufficient to keep a self-winding movement activated or the watch can be placed in a watch winder to maintain accurate time. A quartz movement uses a vibrating quartz crystal that powers a small motor. A mercury-free battery supplies the electric current to the crystal at a constant rate.
